The main goal of conducting the courses is the PhD students to acquaint themselves with the opportunities, which the modern information technologies offer for searching for, gathering and processing information, as well as to acquire primary skills for using them. Together with PRCDC - BAS a training program has been worked out. It consists of several modules. The PhD students specify which modules they will study. The training program includes studying of the operating systems Windows 95/98/NT, processing of documents with MS Word and MS Excel, developing of presentations with PowerPoint, work in Internet and making WWW pages with Front Page.
A mutual project “ARCHIMED” – Architectures for multimedia systems for education with IMI and IIT concluded successfully. The researches in the project are oriented towards the development, construction, and experiment with distributed environment for interactive education, as well as for constructing of databases with the modules of this education. Pilots were constructed- modules of courses for computer education: “Internet”, computer graphics, WEB design, hypermedia,etc.
A program, called “PERLIB”, is developed for supporting of the database “Periodical Editions”. It is realized on “Borland C++ Builder”. The program works in Windows 95/98/NT environment with database via ODBC or Database Client (InterBase, Oracle,…). The program has been tested with MS Access 97 database and InterBase 5.5., and is installed for testing exploitation in some libraries of BAS. In a developing process is the program for supporting of the database “Books”.
The purpose of the project is an interactive education of teachers and children to be conducted, together with the specialized schools for deaf and blind children in Sofia (two), Plovdiv and Varna, by providing for an Internet access and creating web- pages of these schools. The final object is the usage of the modern information technologies during the educational process of the children.
Mutual activity with the Ministry of Finances for educating and re-qualification of the staff. The main goal is acquiring of skills for using computer techniques, program products and computer network in the Ministry of Finances. The training programs are constructed for a 3-leveled education: elementary, advanced and such for system administrators. The programs include Windows NT, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS Power Point, Internet and computer networks.
Together with IMI and IIT, the LT of BAS built up high- speeded highway among the 25A, 8 and 29A. The local networks in IMI, IIT and the Laboratory of Telematics are being re- equipped for work with speed 100 Mbits/s- full duplex. A project is being developed for creating a distributed computing environment in order the computing recourses of a number of BAS sections to be united (as IMI, IIT, CLPP).
A mutual project “Securing jobs of the laid off staff of the Bulgarian Army” is developed between the Laboratory of Telematics and Microsoft – Bulgaria.The goal of the project is together with The Military Academy and The Headquarters of Bulgarian Army, the reform of the BA to be supported by interactive education of personnel, officer and sergeant staff, subject to dismissal (according to the reform). This will be achieved by rehabilitation and improving of the specialists’ qualification in their civil professional areas. For that purpose, the modern information technologies for education will be used in afforded for the goal by Microsoft teaching-rooms. An Internet access will be provided and web-sites will be built for servicing the corresponding social group. The Laboratory will support the networks and develop tutoring software.
In execution of State order No 25/23.08.2002 together with the Information and Communication Agency to the Ministry of Transport and Communications was done the organization and technical support of the European workshop “Electronic Publications in Cultural Heritage”
In execution of State order No ÈÐ217/12.08.2003 with the Information and Communication Agency to the Ministry of Transport and Communications was realized "Development and applications of mobile communications from third generation” .
In execution of State order No ÈÄ15/09.07.2004 with the Information and Communication Agency to the Ministry of Transport and Communications was realized “Development of Pilot experimental education environment for implementation of integrated web technologies and interactive digital television”
In execution of State order No ÈÄ7/21.07.2005 with the Information and Communication Agency to the Ministry of Transport and Communications was realized Information portal with digital multimedia library.
In execution of State order No 94/01.08.2007 with Government Agency for Information and Communication Technologies was realized the project “Database for the existing IT certificates in Bulgaria “.
A development by LT-bas of the administrative and automated test systems for ECDL-Bulgaria was done in 2006. From then the support of the main center of ECDL – Bulgaria and for storing and management of the test data for ECDL – Bulgaria is done by LT-BAS. It is supporting and managing the network of more than 20 ECDL test centers for Bulgaria
In 2003 Laboratory of Telematics started a joint project with East West Management Institute – New York for ICT education and certification of Bulgarian Law system. Program for the education, courseware and assessment modules were developed under this project. Education and training was done in Sofia and in nine district Law departments on site.
Laboratory of Telematics actively participated in EC Leonardo da Vinchi II program. Under several projects were developed and experimented interactive e-Learning education environments and courseware.
In 2004 a PHARE project for training of young and unemployed from the district of Ruen was realized and more than 120 people were trained
At the start of 2007 LT and a Greek consultant firm Planet participated in a second major PHARE project named "Support of the Implementation of the Strategy for Reform of the Judiciary through the Introduction of IT Phase II".
By the end of the year 2500 magistrates were trained in 20 Bulgarian towns in basic and advanced computer skills. About forty system administration were also trained in LT. |
Assoc.Prof. Maya Neycheva from LT and prof. Per Lodstead from Uppsala University jointly realized the project “Robust preconditioning methods for multiscale coupled physics problems”.

In 2009 in Laboratory of Telematics took place the two Webcast with Dudley Herschbach (Nobel Prize Winner for Chemistry in 1986) The Webcast is organized jointly by the Centre for Excellence in Education (CEE) and the International Foundation “St. St. Cyril and Methodius”. It is conducted in connection with the 25th anniversary of the first Research Science Institute (http://www.cee.org/) organized by CEE.
